I read somewhere that Tools/Speed Test was actually based on iperf.

 

Well, I tried my best to establish an iperf connection between CPE510 and my laptop (which can iperf with other laptops fine), but could not no matter what I tried.

 

I tried port 9100 (instead of the default 5201) but no chance. I tried iperfing from different laptops, mobile phones and the router, still no luck. All these laptops and mobile phones do iperf amongst each other fine, but not with CPE510.

 

Should I give up? Is the Tools/Speed Test in CPE 510 not compatible with standard iperf at all?

@zapatistal, AFAIK the built-in iperf can't be used externally. Maybe it's a customized version.

 

But why would you want to use this? I use an external iperf3 if I want to fiddle with parameters or measure throughput of the wireless link from LAN to LAN. I use the built-in iperf only for measuring pure wireless throughput to proof an optimal antenna alignment.

My setup is like this :   

 

 

Modem+router-------------CPE610 (AP) ))))))))))))) (((((((((CPE510 (Client)-----------Router (AP))))))))) mobile phones

             |

             |

             |

         laptop

 

 

 

Legacy speed test beween CPE610 and and CPE510 gives 120 Mpbs which is fine.

 

iperf between laptop and the modem+router gives 90 Mbps which is also fine-ish.(powerline connection)

 

Yet, iperf betweeen laptop and the Router on the right only gives 25 Mbps.

 

I am just trying to understand where the bottleneck is and why the router at the right end cannot exceed 25 Mbps. That is why I am trying to iperf the CPE's individually to understand where the bottleneck could be. Is this another case of the half-duplex vs full-duplex phenomenon?

Throughput between the CPEs should be ~210 Mbps (that's 300 Mbps pure WiFi rate - 30% overhead in 802.11n-only mode) in unidirectional direction with built-in iperf. If you reach only 90 Mbps it might be caused by not properly aligned antennas or by WiFi settings such as MAXtream set to on.

 

Did you use the antenna alignment tool built into the CPEs to align the antennas? CPE610 has a very narrow antenna beamwidth of 9º H / 7º E, so it's kind of a challenge to align the antenna properly.

My SNR is 42 dBm -- so I guess the alignment should be more or less OK ? I can't get it any higher than that.

@zapatistal, signal strength for H polarized antenna looks very good, but for V polarized antenna it's acceptable only.

 

However, you did set Test mode. You should set your country as region, not Test mode.

But regardless, bottomline I guess is it is a firm "No" on the internal "legacy" iperf compatibility issue.
