@Rojoone2

I am follow this thread with high interest because I definitely want to be able to edit the name of the wireless device into my Omada controller (Windows). I have a lot de wireless devices and most of them are IoT devices who only send "unknown" as device name... this is very annoying and it's also hard to see if I ever have any unwanted devices into my system.

Waiting for the good news! heart

@R1D2

Thanks for the info.

It would have been nice for TP-Link Support to reply to this thread, it's high on the list and the answer seems easy enough.

ETA known for the new sw?

@mduchaine,

TP-Link support did made a statement here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/151455?replyId=430604

The »Business WiFi« forum is the correct place for discussions about Omada products.

As Jonas wrotes elsewhere the Omada SDN controller should be expected in Q1.

It's your Wyze camera to blame for this. It obviously transmits its DHCP hostname to your Netgear router, but does not transmit its WiFi hostname (which might be different, since it's a different network).

I observed the exact same behavior when I was using the built-in WiFi of my Bell Canada FIBE router, I didn't have much "UNKNOWN" devices in the WiFi management page, but with the OMADA I have plenty... like 50% of my devices (which are home automation devices) are not showing up.

And obviously my Bell Canada FIBE router had the option to rename devices, just like any router/wifi system existing on earth, except for the OMADA as well... indecision

Again, that's the DHCP name of a client shown in the list if it does not send a WiFi hostname. Your router gets the DHCP name since it runs the DHCP server, while Omada Controller does not get the DHCP name since it not has a DHCP server. Any AP controller will use the WiFi hostname and if your device reports an empty WiFi hostname, it's »unknown«. A router is a router – even if it's a WiFi router , an AP controller is an AP controller. Don't compare apples with pears.

Omada SDN Controller V4.1.5 has been released already and it does have the option to rename your WiFi clients.

I have no idea why you all are still complaining here rather than just upgrading to the latest version of the controller.
