Secure FTP using SIM and Archer Router
Dear all
I am using an O2 data only SIM with the Archer MR600 router for internet in my office. The reason for this is the 4g network is returning download speeds of between 35 - 51mbps, compared to my 'wired' BT broadband of 1mbps if I'm lucky.
However, I'm having a problem using FileZilla and connecting to webservers using 'FTP over TLS'. I can connect using plain insecure FTP, but I don't want to do this.
I've spoken to the webhosts who have said this if often a problem with the carrier grade NAT and I've read online people having similar problems without a solution.
I've spoken to O2 network team who have proposed setting up a VPN, but I'm not sure if the objective of the VPM is for me to still use FileZilla to connect to a webserver using FTP over TLS - therefore the VPN is to avoid some kind of network issue preventing that working? Or for me to use the VPN instead of TLS? If so, I don’t think this would be secure as the data would still be unencrypted between the O2 network and the network of the webhosts.
I have to honest, I am very technically challenged and find all this a bit confusing!
I did see when I was in the Archer Admin screens today that there is an option to set up a VPN. I just wondered how this worked, and if I could replicate what O2 are proposing with the router by using the VPN here?
If so, the other question is how to I remove the VPN if it doesn't work to continue using the SIM and Archer router without the VPN?
Any other suggestions regarding using the SIM and achieving secure FTP would also be welcomed.
Thanks in advance.
