Model: CPE510
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Scenario, I have a router, switch and devices connected at end A. Router at end A has internet connection and wifi. I need to connect a pc and camera at another site using two CPE510, don't need to use CPE510 for wifi access, just the link only. All devices will be on the same subnet.

Took a lot of trial and error but this is how I got it to work.

End A

Router/Internet 192.168.10.1

DHCP of router 192.168.10.2 to 192.168.10.200

SSID of Router: blahblah

Switch (if managed) 192.168.10.201

CPE510: 192.168.10.250

Various other devices can connect to the switch directly by cable or by wifi to the router.

End B

CPE510: 192.168.10.251

Switch (192.168.10.202)

IP Camera: 192.168.10.230

This is how you set up the CPE510 at end A (note end B will be slightly different)

Set the Operation mode to "Bridge" (do not use AP or Client)

Network Settings

CT: Static

IPA: 192.168.10.250

SNM: 255.255.255.0

GW: 192.168.99.1

PDNS: 1.1.1.1

SDNS: 1.0.0.1

Wireless Settings

Basic:

Region: up to you

Mode: optional, I use 802.11n

Channel Width: optional, I use 20MHz (use 40MHz depending on how many devices you have at end B)

TX Power: optional, my TX distance is 500m with clear line of site and I use 10db which is ok, yours maybe different, try starting on high.

Wireless Client:

SSID of AP: linklink

MAC of AP: enter the MAC address of CPE510 at end B

Tick the Lock to AP Box

WDS: enable

Security: WPA-PSK, WPA2, AES, longpassword

Wireless AP:

Wireless Radio: Enable

SSID: linklink

Security: WPA-PSK, WPA2, AES, longpassword

Advanced:

Distance Setting: 0.55 (eg. 500m + 10%)

System

Device Name: optional, eg. "Link1EndA"

Enter you local time settings.

Now for CPE510 at end B

Set the Operation mode to "Bridge"

Network Settings

CT: Static

IPA: 192.168.10.251

SNM: 255.255.255.0

GW: 192.168.99.1

PDNS: 1.1.1.1

SDNS: 1.0.0.1

Wireless Settings

Basic

Region: up to you

Mode: 802.11n

Channel Width: 20MHz

TX Power: 10db

Wireless Client:

SSID of AP: linklink

MAC of AP: enter the MAC address of CPE510 at end A

Tick the Lock to AP Box

WDS: enable

Security: WPA-PSK, WPA2, AES, longpassword

Wireless AP:

Wireless Radio: Do not Enable the check box.

Don't put any settings here

Advanced:

Distance Setting: 0.55 (eg. 500m + 10%)

System

Device Name: optional, eg. "Link1EndB"

Enter you local time settings.

So that's it. Make sure you save your config at each and and reboot and check you config is still there.

Note:

At end B, on Status page, you can see Wireless Signal Quality of signal being received from End A, no problem, you can easily tell if it is working.

At end A, on Staus page, you cannot see signal quality on Status Page.

To see if it is working click on Tools, then click on Antenna Alignment.

Now you can see the signal levels from end B.

Works fine this way, you can ping and configure devices from either end once the link is up.

Technically speaking, Bridge mode is the same mode as Client mode with the only exception that in Client mode the device is an endpoint and does not enable a virtual AP interface in addition to the STA (client) interface as it happens in Bridge mode. Nevertheless, the Bridge mode uses a Client mode setup for the wireless connection to the main AP, too.

Client mode:

Bridge mode:

So, Bridge mode is in fact half Client/half AP mode on the same device.

Disabling the AP (VIF with SSID 123 in the diagram above) in Bridge mode creates the very same setup you get in Client mode, therefore effectively changing internal mode back to Client-only mode.

What's more, Bridge mode is the same as Repeater mode with the only exception that in Bridge mode you can use two different SSIDs for the STA and AP interfaces, while in Repeater mode the STA and AP interfaces will use the same SSID (SSID abc in the diagram above).

Thus, there are only minor differences between Client, Bridge and Repeater modes in the CPE's wireless settings, but the settings for the connected networks remain always the same in all three modes.

BTW: I would recommend to use 40 MHz channel width in the 5 GHz band, except you live in the U.S. and you experience too much interferences in an overcrowded area. In Europe, the 5 GHz band is partitioned in 40 MHz wide channels anyway. 20 MHz channel width will reduce the maximum throughput of a CPE510.
