Hello,

I am trying to setup 802.1Q VLAN for example  Vlan 10, 20, 30,40, 50, and 60  with router as per VLAN DHCP server  as shown in picture example. I just want to know  if I understood right artikle https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/788/ and this right configuration

First switch

Add vlans 10, 20 as untaged for uplink port and assign to access port, configure PVID for each respective VLAN

Configure VLAN 1 as Taged on g0/24

Second :

Add vlans 30, 40 as untaged for uplink port and assign to access port, configure PVID for each respective VLAN

Configure VLAN 1 as Taged on g0/24 and g0/23

Third switch :

Add vlans 50, 60 as untaged for uplink port and assign to access port, configure PVID for each respective VLAN

Configure VLAN 1 as Taged on g0/24 and g0/23

Artikle says that upling port for router needs to be on PVID 1 also

Thanks in advance

Hi alex-sec

I think your configuration has not problem. But still have the different opinion about the uplink port.

First switch:

Add vlans 10, 20 as tagged for uplink port.

Second :

Add vlans 10, 20, 30, 40 as tagged for uplink port.

Third switch :

Add vlans 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 as untagged for uplink port.

And as you said, the upling port connected to the router needs to be on PVID 1.

Yes, you can do it on every managable switch, even on Easy Smart TL-SG1024DE, which support 32 VLANs totally.

No. Your VLAN 30,40 tagged should go until the router, which port also should be configured as 30,40 tagged. VLAN 1 you can keep if it is your management VLAN.

If you need to use VLAN 1, you can leave VLAN 1 untagged and PVID 1 for uplink port. Also can leave VLAN 1 tagged.

If you don't need to use VLAN1, you can remove the port from VLAN1.

For example, you have a router at home and your ISP provide you TV, IP-Phone and Internet. ISP told you to configure VLANs for IP-Phone and TV, so you need to configure VLAN 10 for IP-Phone and VLAN 20 for TV. It means, that your Phone traffic and TV traffic will be tagged. While you do not need to configure any vlan for Internet, so it means your Internet traffic will be untagged and will be tagged on switch by PVID, let us say VLAN 4000.

ISP switch will have

switchport general allowed vlan 10,20 tagged

switchport general allowed vlan 4000 untagged

switchport pvid 4000

Your router will have this. You do not configure anything for Internet VLAN ID, while you configure VoIP and IPTV to support tagged traffic
