Hi

I currently have a netgear router at a hotel. It has 2 SSIDs -

  • Staff  (secured)
  • Guest (no password & isolated)

I have purchased 3 x TP-Link EAP245 which I would like to extend the range of the guest SSID.

The EAP245 units will be powered using PoE connected to a switch.

What I would like to know is there a way for me to simply use the access points as a repeater of the existing Guest SSID, using the controller software?

Any help appriciated, thankyou.

No, EAPs have to be connected using a cable. Just connect the switch (or specific VLANs of the switch) which powers the EAPs with your Netgear router ad set up the same SSID for the EAPs as used by the existing guest AP(s).

Hi adamtuck,

What's the hardware version of EAP245? If it is the version 3, we may publish a new firmware which support Mesh function in these days. Then you can use Mesh function to extend your wireless coverage.

Would be fantastic to get mesh ability on the indoor 245. I should of read more into it and only bought the outdoor versions. Mesh on the outdoor ones I have is brilliant. Might sell the 2 indoor versions
