We have a setup of 8 APs currently being manged by a shared PC (for CCTV network managment) which is a J1800 based celeron PC. The PC runs omada 3.0.5 controller. the * APs are spread in select locations on the periphery of a 35 acre campus The setup is being running for a year now and we are *very happy with the overall performnace & stability. considering the price we paid.

1. Can we migrate the software based controller on PC to this hardware one ? if yes, any guides/precautions etc ?

2. How many APs can this hardware controller support ? we have plans to upgrade the 8 AP setup to about 60 APs in 2019 Q1 (cover all the 35 acre campus). So maybe 100 APs would be the maximum we will build in this system

1. You can refer to this post: https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/150465?page=1

2. The recommended managed AP number of OC200 is less than 50, and the maximum number is up to 100. If you are considering to use 100 APs in your network, we suggest you using 2 OC200 to manage them. One OC200 may be overloaded.

I have had problems with oc200:

-Count with 5 eap 110 outdoor and 3 eap 115.

The problems I have are that the connection becomes unstable, the speed of the link drops, in some cases I must restart all the computers to work, however, if I configure the eap in ap mode without administration of the oad it works correctly. I have already tried changing settings in the wireless without any favorable results.

Hi,

Does all the EAPs have this problem?

You said "if I configure the eap in ap mode without administration of the oad it works correctly." Do you mean that you manage the EAP in standalone and the problem doesn't exist?

You said "The problems I have are that the connection becomes unstable, and you have to restart the computer." I think it may because that the distance between EAP and your PC is too far away. May be you can check it.

If the oc200 manages the eaps, the connection becomes unstable, there is good wifi signal, but the internet traffic is not good, there is loss of packets and falls, in all users, while, if I delete the oc200 and configure the omada in a pc, everything works correctly.

According to your description, I think there may be something wrong when the OC200 distributes configuration to EAP, so you can reset the OC200 and reconfig the SSID to have a try.

Thanks Jonas. Did the transition from PC based controller with 3.0.5 Omada version to OC200 appliance with 3.0.4 today morning as per your suggested post. Completely glitch free migration. Now will observe the system stability & reliability for 1-2 weeks.

Hi,

The ether2 port of OC200 is a bridge port, devices can connect to the front-end Router/switch directly via this port. You access point will get internet access via the ether2 port.
