Just setting up my two new 510 v2 CPE's.

I'm setting the distance to 0.4km, could lower that maybe.

How accurate does that need to be?

Anyway it's a 5k link and any signal beyond the intended destination would be miles away because it's on a hill.

Would it be better not to run any security at all, would it help performance?

I don't see security as an issue in this location.

Thanks

Since the two links are hooked up already, should I disable SSI broadcast?

With only 500' between them should I set the distance to 0?

What about turn down broadcast power?

If you want the ESSID to not show up in other WiFi gear, you can disable the broadcast. It even saves some WiFi bandwidth by not needing to send the beacon at 6 Mbps regularly. Your remote CPE still will be able to connect since it knows the BSSID of the AP already and that's all it needs. The ESSID is just to find out the correct BSSID (MAC address).

With only 500' between them should I set the distance to 0?

Best is setting it to Auto if your CPE allows for automatic discovery of the distance. This is more accurate than setting it manually.

What about turn down broadcast power?

Why would you want to do that?

My thought was the broadcast that goes past the destination wouldn't be picked up by anyone if it didn't go so far.

But I went ahead and enabled security.

Now I'm going to spend more on a 50' cable than I did on the CPE510. But it says shielded and grounded.

Good shielded cable with ground wire, 300m: 150 Euro. Connectors: 10 pieces 10 Euro.

What is 50'? 50ft? If so, cable with connectors cost ~ 12 Euro including gain for the dealer, that's 14.8 USD. Rest of the money might be for the guy assembling the cable.

I wanted to get the right cable, I only found 1 cable that says shielded and grounded:

https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-IMONTA-Resistant-Waterproof-Buried-able/dp/B074JXFV92/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1523802886

Pretty expensive.

I found some that are shielded and they have metal on the RJ45 jack like this

https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-ShineKee-Heavy-duty-Networking-Waterproof/dp/B06Y66B746/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1523803001

That should be grounded? The jack crimps the foil?

Then it would get earth ground in the injector through the RJ45?

I haven't made any cables in a long time, just going to buy off the shelf.

Pretty expensive and overkill for Fast Ethernet (you don't need CAT.6 or CAT.7, CAT.5e is more then enoguh). What's more, plugs on those cables are way too big for the limited space on CPEs.

I use UBNT ToughCable, which is best for Outdoor appliances. It has an extra ground wire connected to the metal plugs. The prices I told you are for the cable and plugs (not cable with plugs crimped on it). If you can crimp it for yourself, search for offers from shops selling plugs and custom length cables separately:

https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Networks-TOUGHCable-Shielded-Ethernet

But a shop on Amazon US even has crimped TC-compatible cable with TC connectors, price difference is for crimping the RJ45 plugs on the cable:

https://www.amazon.com/JEFA-Tech-Outdoor-Shielded-Assembly/dp/B00A6ULZG2/

Specs for TC are here (you will need TC-Pro, not TC-Carrier):

I'm going with the JEFA cable, it looks good and reasonable.

Lot of things I like about Amazon but it's hard to find what you're looking for sometimes.

Thanks

Absolutely, especially because they filter search results according to products Amazon thinks you could be interested in. :D
