EAP220 Portal Authentication

Hi,
I have 3 EAP220's working in managed mode using the latest f/w and controller version.
I have created a new SSID using a separate VLAN with a different IP range. This works fine when connecting using a security password. I get an internet connection and I am separated from my other main IP range.
My problem occurs when I want to use the portal function for the SSID on the new VLAN. I can connect to and receive an IP but I cannot authenticate due to the controller being on the original IP range. I get a message "http://x.x.x.x:8088 canot be reached" (x.x.x.x is the IP of the controller).
Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
