Thank you Tom. I just face-palmed. The US site has the latest FW but the Canadian has this, which was already on the device when purchased. EAP245(US)_V1_161116 Device: [URL="http://static.tp-link.com/EAP245(US)_V1_161116.zip"]EAP245(US) V1.1

Is the issue fixed?

No - I returned the unit for warranty. They sent me a CAP1750 HW v 1 which looks to be a slightly more 'enterprise-y' version.

I cannot rule out that there's an issue with the LG G4 H812's, still Android 6.0. I've had to forget and reconnect the wifi several times as they appear to have issues maintaining connections to any of TP-Link wifi products. Only TP-Link products, I'm sure because I went all-in.

Sorry if I'm bring a dead thread back to life.

But i've googled extensively about the issue I am facing and this thread seems to tbe the closest to my issue.

I have a Netgear R7000p Router + EAP245V3 AP.

Most wireless clients are connected to EAP245V3.

However, some clients will periodically timeout, (windows shows the exclamation mark) and then reconnect 1ish minute later.

These same clients connected to the R7000p directly will never behave this way.

I can also trigger this timeout on purpose by running a speed test on my client.

10 seconds into the speedtest, the client will lose internet connectivity. Only to regain it a minute later.

This leads me to believe that QoS might be the culprit here.

So I tried turning that off. BUT, as soon as I turn QoS 'off', the link rate displayed in Omada for the wifi clients drops to 54Mbps.

If I turn QoS 'on', I see link rates as high as 600Mbps.

I am on the latest FW. Wired clients seem to be rock solid.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you turn of WMM (QoS), the AP will use only 802.11b/g causing the WiFi speed to drop to 54 Mbps. To be able to use 802.11n you must leave WMM turned on. WMM is required for 802.11n by the WiFi standard, so that's normal behavoir.

As for loss of Internet (it's not a loss of the WiFi connection to the EAP when Windows shows an exclamation point) I don't have an idea what could be the cause, but I never experienced this with any EAP. First thing I would check if Internet fails is the connectivity from the client to the router by pinging the router's IP from the client machine. If this shows a broken connection, try to ping the EAP itself. If this also fails, then the WiFi connection dropped.

Thank you for that clarification regarding QoS.

I had no idea!

But the time-outs are really bothering me though.

It will happen with any constant load.

If I'm downloading a steam game, or my Spotify library.

Like clockwork, every 2 minutes, the internet will be unavailable.

But will recover itself. The device will disconnect from the AP, and then reconnect a minute later.

I've been able to reproduce it across multiple devices:

Desktop with Linksys AE6000 Wifi USB adapter.

Surface Pro 3 with Marvel Wifi (I believe)

Mobile devices (such as iphone & pixel) are perfectly fine.

I can run as many speed tests as I want, with no timeouts.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am only using the 5ghz radio on the EAP245V3. I have the 2.4ghz disabled.

This (»Internet will be unavailable«) is way to unspecific for a description of what happens in your network.

As I wrote, check whether the clients can ping the EAP and can reach the router when they are not able to reach the Internet. You need to find out which device in your network causes this problem and only then one can give suggestions what could be the cause of clients not having access to the Internet.

Also keep in mind that a speed test will hog the router's resources and if you have only low bandwidth on the uplink it is not unusual that browsers run into a timeout (don't rely on browser's error messages, they are often mis-leading).

If clients are still connected to the WLAN and if both, the EAP and the router, are reachable during such a malfunction, the cause is neither the connection to the WLAN nor the connection to the router.

@R1D2

Ok thank you for the direction.

I will investigate this weekend and get back to you.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

For some reason, it never occurred to me to ping the AP or the router since my PC was connected to the network but just showing an exclamation point.

But I will run these tests this weekend and get back to you.

My connection is 500Mbps down and 25Mbps up through my ISP.

Hi @MFK, I was wondering if you ever resolved this problem. I also have EAP245 with clients timing out.
