Normaly the iphone should support to be connected to open wifi..My iphone has no problem. Do you have some special settings? Or your phone has installed some security apps?

If you have set up the schedule rules it doesn't consume any data flow. And if you want to control from remote side it doesn't generate too much. Don't worry.

No way, this plug only work with wireless network.
