I had a Kasa plug named "Attic Air Compressor" that failed, so I replaced it with a different KP115 Kasa plug and named it "0 Air Compressor 6246."

When I say, "Alexa, turn on air compressor," the Echo responds, "Attic Air Compressor isn't responding," which is the name of the old, defective plug. I tried to see if the old plug was in my list of devices in the Alexa app, and I could not find it. I tried saying the name exactly as it's written ("Alexa, turn on zero air compressor six two four six"), and it still says "attic air compressor isn't responding." This has been a problem for months. What is going on?

I can control the new plug fine in the Kasa app.

I just tried to plug in the defective plug and rename it to "broken plug," but when I give the command, "Alexa, turn on attic air compressor," it still controls this defective plug. Here's the funny thing. If I also say, "Alexa, turn on broken plug," it will also control it as well.

When I went into the Alexa app again, I found a device named "attic air compressor," so I renamed it "broken plug," but when I say, "Alexa, turn on air compressor," it will say that a couple plugs share that name and ask me which one I want to turn on.

How do I get it to forget the old "attic air compressor" entirely so that it will control my new plug?

Again, everything works fine in the Kasa app and the Alexa app. I can control all the plugs using my phone.

Oh, I just tried something that worked! I went into the Alexa app on my iPhone and selected the old plug and disabled it in the menu. Now when I say, "Alexa, turn on air compressor," it turns it on the new plug!

But what if I want to use the old plug again after I fix it? I tried re-enabling it, and Alexa will tell me two devices share the same name, even though I renamed it to "broken plug." I wonder what would happen if I did a hard reset on the plug, but if I did that, I would not have been able to find it in the Alexa app to disable right?

Does anyone have any clue what's going on? Is there an easier way to deal with this? If I threw that old plug away, I would not have been able to disable it in the app right?
