Hey Everyone!

Over the past few months, we have seen quite a few updates for our Smart Cameras; between adding new features or drastically improving the performance of existing devices – our team highly recommends checking for any updates and seeing if any of your previously seen behaviors have been resolved.

As is the case typically, we have done our best to provide a summary of the key feature updates, but please bear in mind:

  • Not All Hardware Versions of a Model will Receive the Same Updates and Are Not Often Given at the Same Time
  • Only New Features Were Specifically Called Out, Bug Fixes and Optimizations Were Largely Left in the Patch Notes
  • We Likely Missed a Few Models or Features, Make Sure to Check Your Device’s Download Page for the Most Accurate and Recent Patch Notes

Inquiry Regarding Inconsistent Firmware Updates for Cameras

I purchased 3 C210 and 2 C110 cameras around November 2023 / December 2023. Recently, I received a firmware update for only one of my five cameras. I would like to know if you are rolling out the update gradually and why only one of my cameras received it while the others have not.

Here are the current details for my cameras:

  • C110: Firmware: 1.3.14 Build 240513 Rel.45784n(5553) Hardware: 2.0 (no updates available)
  • C110: Firmware: 1.3.14 Build 240513 Rel.45784n(5553) Hardware: 2.0 (no updates available)
  • C210: Firmware: 1.3.11 Build 231115 Rel.85532n(5553) Hardware: 2.0 (no updates available)
  • C210: Firmware: 1.3.11 Build 231115 Rel.85532n(5553) Hardware: 2.0 (updated to Firmware: 1.4.0 Build 240606 Rel.64596n)
  • C210: Firmware: 1.3.11 Build 231115 Rel.85532n(5553) Hardware: 2.0 (no updates available)

Could you please clarify the situation and advise on when the remaining cameras might receive the update?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hey @JohnOrion,

First, Double-check that you have the v2 and not v2.6 by checking the label on the device. From the looks of our site, only the 2.6 has received that update to the 1.4.0 version, but I will check with my team for more information.

Our updates do roll out in waves so it can take some time for an update to arrive. You can help by setting your devices to Auto-Update in the Tapo App. If you are able to confirm that a device's firmware is out of date by comparing to the the C210's download page for your hardware version and region, you may consider replugging the camera, reinstalling the Tapo App, changing your DNS server for your network, or checking for any blocked connections in your router's firewall.

  @Riley_S

I recently received a firmware update to 2 of my 3 TC85 cameras to version 1.3.10.  Now these cameras are no longer able to be viewed in Alexa.  The last camera that did not receive the firmware update is still able to be viewed in Alexa. Could something in the firware update have caused this?

  @DanMarek,

I do not think that it should have affected the camera connection in Alexa, but the cameras are unqiue in their features right now: Recording to an H200 from a Compatible Wi-Fi Camera so I will need to reach out to the team for specific cases and to relay the behavior. Has the behavior resolved itself? Otherwise:

  • How long has it been since the cameras received their update? If they were just updated, there may be some communication that needed to happen between our servers and theirs.
  • Have you tried to unlink and relink the Tapo Skill from the Alexa App?
  • You may also try changing the device's name in the Tapo App, as this will often force the Alexa App to rediscover it.

KASA VERY DISATISFIED CUSTOMER

Please consider adding more time to KASA devices when it comes to timing before and after sunup and sundown. Now it's limited to 59 minutes. not at all usefull.

If I don't see this update soon, I will get a whole new system that allows me to have timers for more that 59 minutes.

  @TRENTZ,

I will need to check with my team for compatibility with the feature as extended offsets for sunrise and sunset have actually been added to many Tapo devices, and even my KP125M Smart plug shows the extended schedule offsets in the Tapo app. Depending on your device, you may consider adding the devices to the Tapo app and seeing if you can take advantage of the extended offsets already.

What devices are you looking at scheduling for specifically?
