Model: EP10
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5

I have a number of EP10s and every once in a while some - not all - of them get into a state where they are not reachable remotely.  They are reachable on the local network.

The only solution is to unplug for 5 seconds and replug and they become reachable remotely again as well as locally.

I've tried bouncing my routers and gateways but these units stay offline remotely.  Nothing I have tried short of unplugging each affected unit triggers them to regain remote connectivity.  Obviously this is a more serious problem if I'm away from home and lose the units.

This does seem to occur around some power/network glitch which put the EP10s into a funky state.

Seems to me they need some sort of wakeup alarm internally to reestablish the remote connection.

Any insights to this problem or solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Please refer to the link below to troubleshoot and check if some tips in the link help you.

What should I do if my Kasa device keeps losing connection or going Offline?
Best Regards

Good morning and thanks for the reply.  I had already looked at those things which apply to my environment.  And I realize in the couple times this has happened to me that there have been contributing/external factors.

I guess my request/comment would be is that bad things can always happen in a network.  It would be nice if a device that has reasonable expectations of being reachable remotely has a way to reestablish its connection to the mother ship.  Something like a keep-alive that tries every now and then to reboot/reconnect and get itself back online.

If the device's use cases include being left home alone it's important (to me) that they have some rudimentary way to fully recover from a network anomaly.  No idea how much or how little local processing you have available but maybe something for future firmware?

Thanks.

Generally, the smart plug will send packets to the cloud server regularly to establish and maintain the connection after it's connected to the internet. If you are able to reboot your router remotely, please try to reboot the router when a smart plug displays offline remotely and check if the smart plug will reconnect to the internet and be able to control it remotely.

Thanks.  I did reboot my network devices (more than once) and while the plugs re-established wifi connectivity they never regained internet.  Its as if they are content if they have wifi and don't attempt internet connectivity.  A quick un/re-plug and they are fully back online.

As I said this is not a normal failure in that most times they recover from interruptions just fine.  But now and then they get into this funky state.

I only know what I can see.
