Model: KS230 KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.10

As stated in subject.   The satellite (load side) switch works fine, as long as the brightness is not at 100%.  When it is at 100%, the lights will not turn off when using this switch. The line-side switch works fine, as does remote operation (since that communicates with the line-side switch).  I have another one of these in another room, and that pair does not have this issue.

Hello everyone,

If you experience similar concern that KS230 won't turn off from satellite switch at XX brightness level,  please help provide information here and email to support.forum@tp-link.com with title ' Forum ID 536750 + Description' , our specialists  would like  help look into that further:

  • the model of bulb & its wattage : e.g. 60W Incandescent bulb model XX
 Please  attach a link of the bulb / light fixture:
  • Please describe phenomenon in details   :
Does main KS230 switch turn on/off the light at any brightness level?
Does satellite KS230 switch turn on/off the light at any brightness level?
Could main / satellite KS230 dim the light properly?

  • If you have multiple sets of KS230 kits, you may change the location or swap the KS230kits and see if the issue occur with certain location  or the brand of bulbs.

note: this post will be marked as solution of this thread, so users could see these in full easily and provide further feedback, thanks for your understanding.

  @Tpkasasmart -

No, I never did get a resolution from tp-link.  They sent me an email and wanted me to go pull lights out of my ceiling and get them model numbers and wattages and all sorts of other nonsense.  First off, in my option that information is irrelevant to the fact that they can't make a product that functions properly for all scenarios, and second off, I'm not going to start removing recessed LED fixtures from my 9' ceilings.  When I told them I was not getting out a ladder and removing fixtures that were installed by a professional electrician so that I could get them model numbers and part numbers and whatever else they wanted, they simply stopped responding to me.

So, what did I do?  Well, honestly, since I've got 9 recessed LEDs on the circuit that is being controlled by this dimmer, even at 85% brightness it is still daylight-bright in my kitchen.  So, I just wrote an automation that monitors the brightness setting of the switches and any time it is adjusted above 85%, I knock it back down to 85%.

Works fine, and was much easier to do than dealing with support would have been.

Best of luck!

Hello   @Exx1976

Thank you for your valuable feedback.

Can you help provide some information here to help investigate further:

1. model of bulb  & a link of the bulb

2. bulb wattage

3. how long the dimmer switch has been working fine with the bulb, or does  this happen since you installed the 3-way dimmer switch?

4. If possible, can you take a video of the issue and share the link

In a different room, does KS230kit  control the same model of bulb? Thank you.

  @Solla-topee

I have no idea.

No idea. Electrician installed them. They are LED wafer light fixtures that are daisy chained together.

This behavior has existed since install, it has never worked right.

Not possible.

The bulbs on the other circuit are led bulbs in a chandelier.

I have the same issue. Installed myself. Incandescent bulbs.

  @Exx1976 @Tatersdad

Can you find the exact model of LED light fixture / Incandescent light bulb &  purchase link of the bulb? That will help us find the wattage & detailed spec of the bulb,  thank you.

You could try to swap the Light fixture or try a bulb of different made and see if that makes any difference.

  @Tatersdad Can you help describe the issue in details, can  you turn off the light ON/ OFF properly at a different brightness, does this happen with Satellite KS230 only or both Main & Satellite can not turn off light at 100%?

  @Solla-topee

I will do no such thing, and your request that I do so is preposterous. The lights are installed in the ceiling, which is 10' up in the air. I am not climbing a ladder and disassembling my ceiling and light fixtures so you can troubleshoot your product that should have worked properly prior to you putting it on the market to begin with.

Had this product been designed properly, instead of tp link trying to be so fancy as to allow dimming from both ends of the circuit, this issue would not be happening.

Exact same function at 90% as OP. I have 40W bulbs currently but I also tried 60W Dimmable Ecosmart LED bulbs with the same effect.

 Hello  @Exx1976

If it's a LED light fixture, not a bulb,  that's indeed a hassle to swap them.

As KS230kit works fine with the LED light fixture in a different room, it might be related to certain light fixture or the electrical environment.  I would like to escalate your case through support email TKID220230111 and our senior could help look into that further, please check your inbox.

The smart dimmer switch is different from a common dimmer switch, it must have some advantage or have-to by designing in that way, you could share more insights with the dimming design with our engineers in the support email.

The design is nonsense because you require 2 switches. You need to make one single switch that is a 3 way dimmer. The dimming would be controlled from this one switch, the other switch would not have to be a smart switch at all.
