I was having all kinds of trouble connecting new Kasa smart plugs to my network. Just continued to time out even after reset. I used chat and they were very helpful. For install Router needed to be on 2.4 ghz and WPA security had to be on Personal (mine was on mixed). Hooked up like a charm. After install I put  the 5 ghz back on and left the security on personal. Everything works!
