Had two 3 way switches in my kitchen that I removed.  1 has the hot from the panel coming into it and sending (through old traveler wire) a hot to the second.  The load side of the 1st switch goes to the second box and is wire nutted to the hot to the lights.  Works fine from switch 1.  I have them provisioned in the tapo app and they are also connected to home assistant.

I can easily turn lights off and on from automation i.e when switch 2 is on turn switch 1 on etc.  The problem is trying to mirror the brightness level from switch 2 to switch 1.  i.e. if the lights are on and I want the lamp brightness to show the same on each dimmer.  if I hit a button on either that  value should change on both as well as the light.  The automations in tapo do not give access to the brightness buttons to be a trigger.

I know there is a lot of discussion about 3ways, but for now just trying to figure this out in the scene / automation route.

thanks

  @captk

The Tapo S505D is not compatible with 3-way runs. at least not in an official capacity.  The two products that will absolutely work and we have provided videos on are the Tapo S515, which is a single pole, 3-way, and 4-way switch.  And, the  Tapo S515D Kit, which is a 3-way dimmer kit.  The S515D Kit sounds like it would be the switch you would want to use in your situation.

I have no infromation available that says the S505D can be used in 3-way enviroments properly. So because its a single-pole switch could be why you may be having concerns with it or its features not working properly.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I did not explain correctly. I have converted the circuit to a 2 way dimmer. I installed the second switch just to power it up and want to use automation to control the dimming and on/off when set from either switch. So in essence it is a 2 way dimmer with automation controlling from wherever it is being triggered from I understand there is now a 3 way switch that will do that if I uninstall, purchase and reinstall.
