What Automation Settings are Available for Contact Sensors?

  • Closed: triggers Whenever Door Moves from Closed to Open
  • Keep Open for More than 1 Minute: Triggers after a Door is Opened and is Not Closed for 1 Minute
  • Keep Open for More than X Minutes: Triggers after a Door is Opened and is Not Closed for X Minutes (Custom Duration)

Actions: As a sensor, no automation actions are available.

Effective Time: Limit Unnecessary Notifications and Automation Triggers

After configuring your automation, you can configure its effective time. This feature allows you to set a time-based condition for when the automation can be triggered.

To prevent your family from setting off your sensors and triggering your automations, consider setting the effective time of your indoor automations to only work at night.

What Can You Automate with a T110 Contact Sensor?

🚨Create An Alarm with Your H100 to Alert You of Opened Doors or Windows

If you have kids, you know how difficult it can be always to keep an eye out. You can use the hub's built-in speaker to alert you of any opened doors or windows. Don’t worry; you can customize the times you want to be notified and the sound/volume of the tone – or create different notifications for daytime vs nighttime events.

⌛Keep Track of and Create Automatic Timers for Doors and Appliances – Refrigerators, Dryers, Washers, Pet Doors and More!

This isn't limited to your Front and Back Doors! Place your contact sensor on your pet door or appliances such as your dishwasher and dryer door.

When creating an automation with the sensor in these locations, you can set up a custom notification to notify you when your pet goes outside, or to start an automated timer whenever the dryer/dishwasher door is closed.

Automatically Toggle Your Smart Lights for Mornings

Perhaps the most popular automation for your sensor, this automation can be used to turn on a smart light or switch whenever you enter a leave a room.

For example, using a contact sensor to turn on a smart light switch in my garage allows my family to enter the garage with their hands full without worrying about turning on the light or tripping over things in the dark.

The Sensor Can be used in various ways and is extremely flexible in its placement.

  • Limit the Gap Between the Sensor Parts to 15mm gap.
  • Place the larger sensor portion on the stationary object (door/window frame)
  • Place the thinner magnetonly portion on the door, window, or drawer.

Tip: You may still find that your door frame or door is offset just enough to lessen the reliability of the sensor. In this case, you may try tilting the sensor portion towards the magnet's resting place. Otherwise, it is recommended to use more or thicker foam tape to attach the sensor to the door.

*Actual Battery Performance may depend on environmental factors and how often the sensor is activated.

Adding Your Sensor to Other Platforms (Matter Bridging)

The Tapo T110, when connected to a compatible hub, can be added to different platforms via an official integration or via the Matter-Bridging Feature of the Tapo H100 and H200 Smart Hubs.

  • When brought into another platform, the device will report its current state, open or closed.
