KC420WS Detection Settings not working as expected
KC420WS Detection Settings not working as expected
I have two new KC420WS cameras and neither are providing alerts as expected. Both are up to date on firmware and have strong wifi connectivity.
One will send me alerts for any "person" detected, regardless of how I set the activity zone, per pictured below. I get a dozen of these a day if anyone walks by anywhere on the sidewalk. I've adjusted it further and further back from the street with no change.
The second has been configured to only alert on person detection, but sends me all motion alerts, even those tagged as motion not mislabeled as person.
I swapped all of my V3 Wyze cams with the latest KASA cams and have had pretty terrible results thus far.

Also my KC401 refuses to limit the notification/bundle them per the app config, also I've noticed that going into the app the "limit notifications" section is missing on all cameras until I re-toggle any of the switches on the page, which I assume is an issue with the app.
Here is the notifications page, On the first is as it loads. The second is after i toggle off and back on person detection OR all other notification on and back off.

Hello @itskevindulac
Thank you for your detailed post!
Do you use Motion & Person detection on the 1st KS420WS, and use Person Detection only on 2nd KS420WS, can I have a photo of motion detections & sensivity settings of them
- Please confirm Kasa App and device firmware are both up to date.
- Check if sound/ motion detection has been turned off or sound will also trigger alters
- Adjust camera motion detection sensitivity settings to low / middle
Can you help provide some information here for us to analyze the issue:
- model of phone and its Android or IOS version:
- Tapo APP version:
- a short video of showing what happens with ' limited notification', is it reproducible?
- Mac address of camera
To better assist with your case, we would like to follow up and escalate through support email, please check your inbox later

Hello @Solla-topee
I use Person detection only on all cameras.
I am using Android 12 on a Google Pixel 6, and my wife has a Samsung Galaxy S21 also on Android 12, both experience the notifications so I don't think its app/phone related.
Please see the video at this link for the reproducible Limit Notification issue I have, on both devices. https://photos.app.goo.gl/pTxX5t59GSt5p46b9

@Solla-topee The issues seem to affect all of my Cameras.
Here is another example with my brand new Doorbell, getting a car driving by outside of my detection zone labeled as a Person Detected.
It genuinely seems like person detection ignores Detection Zones, not to mention the terrible AI. I get alerts for everything from Cats to birds, bugs, cars, even a skunk, and sometimes nothing noticable moving at all!

Hello @itskevindulac
After checking with our team, Person Detection uses the full page of Activity zone , not subject or limited to the set Zones.
It not quite common that motion is also detected as person detection, you could reply support email TKID220315337 directly and see if our seniors and has suggestion for it.
You could now delete the photo with MAC or hide the Mac address for security reason.

Thoroughly disappointing to hear that the activity zones don't apply to person detection!
Add to that a problem with the time usually being out of sync and the camera/doorbell is practically useless!
What a pity! Even the message trply feature doesn't work properly!

Hello @Malel
Thank for the feedback, to better assist with the concern, can you start a new thread and provide some case details>? We will try to look into that further, Thank you
Thank you for your suggestion with the Person Detection Activity Zone, you may start a new feature request thread for this feature, so user could thumb-up and comment for this feature, this will help when a feature is raised with related team for evaluation.

I disagree with the engineers. The purpose of the activity zones is to decrease notifications. What is the purpose of activity zones? They are the areas that will trigger the camera a detection event. I have the same problem with my 420 where I don't put the sidewalk or street as part of the any zone but keep getting alerts from people walking on the sidewalk or car the drive past. Very annoying and I can't tell from real events that someone is in my property vs someone walking by on the sidewalk.
