Model: KC105
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 2.3.9

I set up a couple of KC105 cameras for a friend and they've been working perfectly for what she wanted.

However, the other day the power tripped out at her house when she was away for a couple of days.  She tried to access the cloud recordings to see if someone had been there and switched off the power but there was no way to view the cloud recordings with the cameras off-line.  When she returned home she discovered a tripped circuit breaker and restored the power.  The cameras were again available and the cloud recordings were accessible.

This seems to be a major flaw in the architecture of this system.  If someone was to break in, they would be recorded by the camera and footage will be stored on the SD card and also sent to the cloud.  However, if they steal the cameras, along with the TVs, guitars, etc - then there is no way to identify the thief.  Is this actually the way it works, or am I missing something?

Hello @GeoffSmith31

1.  Kasa cameras with SD card feature like model KC105 usually does not come with free cloud storage, thus users will need to subscribe Kasa Care to use Cloud recording feature.  What is Kasa Care?

Cloud recordings could be viewed from Kasa APP-> Activity  even when camera is offline or powered off,  video clips sound/ motion events will be uploaded to cloud after setup.

2.  SD card recording are saved locally in the SD card and camera need to powered on to access SD card content.

If you use SD card recording on camera and worried the camera being taken off or stolen,  here are some tips that may help.

•    Place outdoor cameras out of easy reach and mount camera properly.
•    Enable the Alarm function to help monitor the surrounding.
•    Subscribe to Kasa Care/ Tapo care service, videos can be saved in Cloud

Hope this helps.

@Solla-topee OK, my mistake by the look of it.  I thought the KC105 had the free cloud storage 12hrs/2days, but the table in the Kasa Care link shows that it does not have the free cloud storage :(
