Original Setup (located at living room at ground flr)
ISP: Maxis Home Fibre 1Gbps
Existing Router: Kaonmedia AR2140 Wifi 6 router (provided by Maxis)
Modem: Skyworth with 2.5Gbe (provided by TM Unifi as backend infra)

 

New Setup (located at living room at ground flr)
New Router: Deco BE85  
Firmware Version: V1.0.17 Build 20240312 Rel 52632

 

House Dimension

Ground Floor (12xx sqft)
Upper Floor (12xx sqft)
Total sqft less than 2500 sqft)

 

Replace Maxis router to Deco BE85 lately, the new connectivity as below:-
Fibre services -> Skyworth Modem via 2.5Gbe port -> cat 6 cable -> BE85 10Gbps ethernet combo port

 

However got few issues below:
1) Abnormal WAN Port Speed Message during and after the setup, but internet is working. Tested on all the Deco ethernet ports, still the same.
2) Deco Speed Test is not working, but using other speed test tool is fine
3) Speed Test within 5 feets from BE85, Download 7xxMbps Upload 5xxMbps.
4) Speed Test from upper floor bedroom, Download 2Mbps Upload 0.xMbps (this is very bad and worst than original setup with Download 8xMbps Upload 2xMbps)

 

Initial expectation for BE85 which just bought this week can help provide more stable and stronger wifi coverage especially on upper floor, but now it is not the case after setup. Is there something can be fixed or product issues? Please help to advise. Thanks.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

The latest firmware for Deco BE85(SG)V2 is 1.0.19. It is suggested to update the firmware first:

If it doesn't help and the error pops up again, please help me submit the Deco APP log:

By the way, have you tested the Ethernet connection speed from the main Deco BE85? Is it also capped at 7xxMbps-Download/5xxMbps -Upload?

(It would also be highly appreciated if you could add some speedtest screenshots here)

@David-TP  Thanks for the feedback.

 

As i new to this Deco. So will need to understand more before upgrade the firmware. As i based in Malaysia, this firmware (Deco BE85(SG)_V2_1.0.19 Build 20240719) from Singapore website link. I cannot find this in Malaysia website, so this provided firmware can it install to Malaysia router? Sorry to ask, how to apply this firmware in Deco BE85 if it is no issue? Aside if i go to Deco app itself where it has a recommendation of firmware upgrade as well, the firmware showed as below. Not sure which one will be the better way to do it and fixed it? 

Will trying to submit Deco App log if error msg still remained after firmware upgraded.

Speed test within 5 ft from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85(Ground Flr).

Speed test at Bedroom 1 (Ground Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

Speed test at Family Hall (Upper Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

Speed test at Bedroom 2 (Upper Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

Speed test at Bedroom 3 (Upper Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

Speed test at Master Bedroom (Upper Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

 

From speed test results above,

Ground flr not hit close to full bandwidth 1Gbps from ISP. 

Upper flr is wifi performance is very poor overall.

 

Checked the Deco App support centre on improve speed, then i turned off the UPNP feature and SIP ALG feature since i not use VOIP. Then I realised there is some increment of speed test results as below.

Speed test within 5 ft from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85(Ground Flr).

Download increase from 6xx -> 8xx and Upload increase slightly.

Speed test at Family Hall (Upper Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

Download drop slighly but Upload increase double

Speed test at Bedroom 2 (Upper Flr) from iPhone15 Pro Max to Deco BE85 (Ground Flr).

Download increase 10 times and Upload slight increase

 

So, it got some improvement. However, especially the upper floor where still really below the expectation. Not sure can it achieve at least 3xxMbps for family hall and 1xxMbps for bedrooms at upper flr? 

If by placing additional Deco BE20/65, is this doable based on speed test result above for family hall? Will this improve the bedroom wifi performance better?

Hi, Thanks for the details. I might need some time to check it carefully later.

 

As for the firmware of Deco BE85_V2, 1.1.1 is indeed the latest official version for the general EU/US version.

I guess it was misled by your community registration location(somehow the system said you are from SG and the firmware of Deco BE85(SG) is locally customized.

 

So if you can detect the "1.1.0 Build 20241023" on the Deco APP, that would be perfect and please try to update to this version first.
