Lock down the modem if adds child deco
Lock down the modem if adds child deco
Hi,
The diagram below is the distribution of my home network.
Red line means the connection is using cable (RJ45).
Brown lin means if any one of these connections is setup, the modem and all decos are hold. (Deco shows 'red light' on and both IPTVs are gone)
That is, the DHCP of the modem seems 'failed' and others cannot get IP assignment.
I need to disconnect 1st deco and 2nd deco, reset modem and main deco, then all are working well (excepts two child decos)
I don't like to let decos act like AP. I would like to have those features that deco provide.
Is there any solution can make this distribution working well ?
P.S.: Now the solution I can have is the two child decos are working in 'wireless'. The drawback is the location of these child deco are limited. This is not useful for me.
Your advice is welcome

Hi, if Deco works on the wireless router mode, only the main Deco could connect via Ethernet cable to the ISP modem, which might be why Deco turned red.
You could try to move the main Deco between modem and 1st switch, like:

Thank for your quickly reply.
I cannot move main deco between 1st switch and the modem as they are located on different floor.
And the modem I had which has the feature of wifi router.
My house has 4 floors. And I only have 3 decos.
My plan is first floor uses the modem within wifi router, each deco locates on 2nd, 3th and 4th floor.
1st IPTV locates on 1st floor and 2nd IPTV locates on 4th floor.
Is this achievable ?

Hi, it is ok.
But I suggest that you put the main Deco at the front and connect to the 1st switch:

Your suggestion was the first usage I did.
Then it failed.
As the subject described here, hangs up once a child note added.

Hi, I see from the first pic, I thought the main Deco was at the back and on the router mode, so actually, it is the first unit connected to the modem via a switch and on access point mode, right?
And Were you able to reprocess the same issue all the time?
May I know the model number of your ISP modem and the two switches?
Thank you very much.

I can answer partial of those questions you asked :
1. Yes, I can repeat the hangs up issue after adding a child node everytime.
2. Switch : TPLink TL-SG108
3. ISP modem : I will provide this this Sat.

Hi,
I illustrated more as shown below:
P.S.: If there is no 2nd IPTV, the connection is working fine.
