Firmware Update
I have a VR900 DSL modem/router V3 running firmware 170303. When I select firmware upgrade on the GUI it tells me I have the lastest firmware already. However when I go on the TP-Link website (UK) & search for firmware updates for this model on the support page it tells me there have been two released in 2020, the latest one in June. How is this & can the website one be installed?
Cheers.

For what it's worth, mine was telling me it was up to date as well.
I installed the newest firmware, released on 2020-06-28, and although it doesn't say on the web site it is actually a beta (0.5.0 0.9.1 v0069.0 Build 200624 Beta.68497n).
However, it seems to be working fine and it is recommended by TP-Link to be installed.

When you view the admin dashboard of the device "basic", scroll to the bottom of this page, it is labelled "Firmware Version:0.5.0 0.9.1 v0069.0 Build 200624 Beta.68497n " to ask the question @Sunshine , can you help shed some light on this please? Is this a beta version to the beta or a general mis labelling of the name?
From what I gather, this new firmware makes use of a newer version of dnsmasq.
The performance dashboard for CPU Load and Memory Usage seems useful, located in the "Advanced" main dashboard. Though I am not keen on the "Speed Test" widget that is found on the "Basic" Dashboard.
Within the System Log and type and you filter by Type:HTTPD and Level Debug, again @Sunshine , would you be able to shed some light as to why the router needs to resolve to www.msftncsi.com so often and very frequently - from looking at the timestamps.
On a positive note, this lastest firmware does seem to have helped and stablised some previous issues experienced with this VR900.

Hello,
It is a beta firmware, not mislabelling of the name.
The reason why we upgrade the firmware is that we receive some feedback about this and want to solve it to make this router work more stability.
If you can work better on this firmware, it may be great!
Thank you and have a nice day!

@Sunshine - thanks for sharing that piece of information and confirming that. Would there be any reply for the second question?
@omnidekka - that is good to hear that your firmware upgrade for your unit has upgraded successfully!
I have been using this firmware for several days down, the router is humming along fine so far. Just tested a download of a file, over one gigabyte in size, through wired ethernet, while keeping an eye on the performance dashboard (on the main advance dashboard); for me this performance dashboard is a plus. The CPU graph hits to about eight to seven percent when performing the download, the memory level stays constant at fifty three percent.
Not really tested the upload, though have observed that for various devices connected to the router, smartphones & tablets that have a scheduled sync/backup, seems to have improved, in the sense that the whole network would not cramp and seize up anymore.

Hi, you may check the meaning and function of the website below as some reference.
Or you can google it to check some detailed explanation. Sorry that it is very hard to answer.
The domain dns.msftncsi.com is used by Microsoft Windows as part of its Network Connectivity Status Indicator tests. This helps Windows determine if the computer is connected to the internet and display the appropriate error icon if connectivity is unavailable.
Have a nice day!

The Beta doesnt work for me. Not sure if it is my ISP's setup but I get DSL modem disconnecting in the logs and the interent doesnt connect, it syncs however.
If i then without changing anything roll back to the current non beta firmware, it connects straight away without intervention.

@Sunshine - thanks for the pointer, I will have a look and read of that.
Another question if I may. When browsing the PPP Debug logs. I see a lot of zeros and then some some alphanumerics, then ... , does this mean there is more alphanumerics that should follow? I thought it might be the html table cutting the information out at first, but looking at the html code through the web browser's developer tools, it is the same.
