Hi, I'm using the TD-W8970 3g /4G router with a 3G USB dongle attached, I connect to the internet via the usb dongle with a sim card in a 3G internet zone. The problem is that the 3G signal fails, but recently I removed the usb dongle from the router and inserted it directly into my laptop and I got the 3g signal again - this happened at least twice.. Is there a way to keep the router active 24/7? Thanks in advance for any help-. Thank you.

Looks like every time the dongle loses 3g signal in the router, it works perfectly again when I insert it in my laptop. I installed a more recent firmware the other day in the router. Same problem, or maybe worse. Could it be a configuration issue?

is your 3G dongle compatible with the router?
How about put the dial number and APN manaully?

The 3G dongle I'm using is Huawei E3531 and it's not on the list of compatible modems for Spain
https://www.tp-link.com/es/support/3g-comp-list.html?model=TD-W8970 although it has been working, but losing connectivity., though after updating the firmware, I'm having more problems to connect to internet. Do you think changing to a compatible modem from the above list would give a stable connection? Or maybe I might need another firmware, or revert back to the original one? Thanks

If it's not on that list, it means it hasn't been test by tp-link.
Therefore, they can't make sure they will work properly together.
It's better to get one which is compatible with the router.

Thanks for the advice. About the compatibility of the 3G modem, is it normal that an incompatible modem can work, but lose the connection now and again? Or would it be more normal not to be able to connect at all? Right now it appears to be working OK. Another doubt I have is that the 3G signal can vary in my area, and at first I thought I needed to change to another internet provider, because many times I tried a sim card from a different company in the same modem and the internet returned.

The Huawei dongle is working now since I inserted a sim card from another Spanish provider. Maybe it's too early to say it's working well, but I'm optimistic! Thanks!
